The Fullness of the Last Breath

What pieces or projects have you been working on lately?
I have been working on visually documenting patron saint festivals, Day of the Dead traditions, and the lives of working women from different towns in Mexico City and its outskirts, accompanied by report-style texts for publication in media outlets.

What did you learn (or unlearn) while working on them?
A lo largo del camino de la fotografía analógica he aprendido a experimentar con diferentes rollos, entre ellos algunos caducados que hacían que se viera con más nostalgia y añoranza dichas festividades.

What words, ideas or emotions were going through your head?
Sin duda, durante esos proyectos quería plasmar la vividez de los recuerdos; cada que disparaba sentía una melancolía de aquello que queremos recordar siguiendo las tradiciones y costumbres combinadas con la cotidianidad de lo contemporáneo.

Were there any conversations, movies, music, or books that made their way into that work?
During those months, I listened a lot to “Outro” by Diles que no me maten, “Quién Fuera” by the Bunkers , and “Peligro” by Ely Guerra. These songs were always present, like soundtracks behind each shot, accompanying these photographs. Still, behind every photograph there are powerful human stories that give them context—stories that always move the heart.

What's been the most difficult thing you've faced recently in your creative process?
The most difficult part of the creative process is that it has become more intimidating to photograph everyday life. Now, you often have to ask for permission before taking a photo, which makes the moment feel less organic and complicates the creative process.

What is your favorite restaurant and what do you recommend we order?
My favorite restaurant is Artículo 123 in Mexico City. Their Khao Pad Sapparod is one of the most exquisite dishes, along with their pomegranate water.

If your life were a movie this month, what would it be called and who would write the soundtrack?
El mes de enero mi vida ha tenido giros de 180º para bien. Años de estar trabajando en lo que más me gusta y en lo que siempre me llamó la atención al fin está dando frutos, por lo que la titularía: The Fullness of the Last Breath, and Luisa Almaguer would do the soundtrack.

Recommend one or more artists you follow who inspire you, and tell us what you like most about their work or their way of working.
My favorite artists are Theo Le Foll—I love his vision behind the lens and how he can capture so much in such a small format—and Luis Ramone , for his motion photography, which I find incredibly beautiful.
