What pieces or projects have you been working on lately?
I just got back from Tokyo and Beijing and I shot sixteen rolls of film. It will take a while to get through it all but I am excited to do something with the photos, like a book or a show or something simple.
What did you learn (or unlearn) while working on it?
Looking at the negatives, I can already tell that I shot a little too loosely. Next trip I take, I hope I am able to slow down and be a bit more intentional about each shot.
What words, ideas or emotions were running through your head?
I was feeling love feelings about my wife. I was feeling lucky to be able to take a trip like this. I was feeling extra motivated to work on music and photos when I get home.
Was there any conversation, film, music or book that found its way into this work?
I always think of this conversation I had with my grandpa about how persistence is the key to success.
What was the most difficult thing you faced this month in your creative process?
We just released my new photo book “Lane” and the project presented many obstacles. It was a huge learning experience and I hope not to repeat the mistakes that I made during the process.
If you could have dinner at any restaurant in the city tonight, where would it be and what would you order?
I’d go to Campania in Staten Island with my family and I’d get a chicken parmigiana and a martini.
If your life were a movie this month, what would its title be and who would make the soundtrack?
We just lost my grandmother – one of the greatest loves of my life. Maybe I’d title the movie Bushel and a peck because she loved that song and I’d have my nephew make the soundtrack with ai, which would be insane and wouldn’t fit the mood at all, but that’s why I would love it.

I will recommend Patrick Quinn, he is a visual artist making some really good work. I think his paintings are really imaginative and funny.
