Fulfilled Dreams

What pieces or projects have you been working on lately?
I haven’t followed a specific structure, but my constant has been analogue photography. I try to experiment with the range of tones and textures that film provides, along with the everyday expressions of nature and its biodiversity.

What did you learn (or unlearn) while working on them?
To be more patient and reflective with my visual production.

What words, ideas or emotions were going through your head?
I feel that I flow when I have a camera in my hand, or when film rolls arrive to me. Every day I think about everything I want to portray and the settings where I want to do it; this brings me a lot of joy and a sense of fulfillment.

Were there any conversations, movies, music, or books that made their way into that work?
My academic readings and the work of colleagues have led me to reflect deeply on my visual practice. There is no production without influences or references. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my anthropology professors, whose kindness has introduced me to very enriching readings — to mention just one among hundreds: The Mushroom at the End of the World by Anna Tsing.

What's been the most difficult thing you've faced recently in your creative process?
Realizing that at the beginning my photographs did not have a clear intention, or that they generated processes of extraction, exoticization, and harm.

What is your favorite restaurant and what do you recommend we order?
I like food stalls run by people who earn their living with dignity: quesadillas, tacos, esquites/elotes, etc.

If your life were a movie this month, what would it be called and who would write the soundtrack?
It would be called Fulfilled Dreams in a Devastated World, and the soundtrack would be by Mercedes Sosa, Atahualpa Yupanqui or Silvio Rodríguez.

Recommend one or more artists you follow who inspire you, and tell us what you like most about their work or their way of working.
I have a very long list. Most of them are people whose visual productions move me and inspire me to keep taking photographs.
