Coincidences exist, and this text is one of them.
A few weeks ago, I went to the place I always go to buy CDs, and by a twist of fate, I found Album, the first record by the now-defunct band Girls.
Back in the day, I was a big fan of Girls; I had their only two albums in digital format (illegally, of course): the one I just mentioned and Father, Son, Holy Ghost, which in my opinion is an underrated masterpiece, full of melancholy and great hits.
It was obvious that I’d take the record home (and a few others) to listen to it, but luckily I had my Discman with me. I didn’t take long to open it (it was sealed, though not brand new); I put it in the player, turned the volume to six, and the magic started all over again.
Album is a raw record, where Christopher Owens’ voice intertwines with his acoustic and electric guitars, while also highlighting his somewhat poetic and psychedelic lyrics.
I was lucky enough to see them live once, I think at Salón 21. It was a simple concert, with the sound failing at times, but it didn’t take away from the incredible performance they gave that night.
Christopher Owens is back in music (which makes me happy), with a small European tour that started in July this year, and a new album titled I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair.
Now, I hope to come across Father, Son, Holy Ghost soon so I can listen to it while walking.
