The way we were

Interview with Hank
by Abel Ibáñez G.

Which tools did you use for the creation of the artwork?
Pen, pencil, ink and paint marker on paper.

What was the creative process of this piece, from the origin until it was finished?
I wrote the words first and this triggered the image. I worked over and around the writing with color and shape.

What were your references, influences or inspirations during your creative process?
Several days earlier l had been looking through a book of Jean-Michel Basquiat drawings and paintings. This combined with life experience of a broken heart from romantic love.

I am pleased with this piece because I feel that it is truthful, including heartbreak and humour.

What did you enjoy the most about the process?
I liked that it came together freely without struggle. I felt that I had expressed myself.

What was the hardest thing for you and how did you solve it?
I spent a few days thinking through things before the clarity of expression came to me.
