What pieces or projects have you been working on lately?
Lately, I’ve been focusing on illustrating still art, which is a personal representation of scenes made up of everyday objects in a distinctive style. I like to describe my work as a kind of “fever dream,” where common spaces or scenes are combined with fantastical situations.

What did you learn (or unlearn) while working on them?
That any object can be transformed into something visually compelling, or even connect with an audience through nostalgia.

What words, ideas or emotions were going through your head?
Nostalgia and an appreciation for simple objects: the idea that an illustration of an object can transport you to a memory, even if you never actually lived it, like the feeling evoked by liminal space imagery.

Were there any conversations, movies, music, or books that made their way into that work?
There is some influence from anime films, especially in the level of detail I try to convey in objects, particularly the films by Studio Ghibli i and the environments in Satoshi Kon’s work.

What's been the most difficult thing you've faced recently in your creative process?
Maintaining consistency in my style while representing scenes made up of different objects.

What is your favorite restaurant and what do you recommend we order?
I love the burgers at Pig's Pearls in Guadalajara, they’re my Friday night treat. I highly recommend the Maple!

If your life were a movie this month, what would it be called and who would write the soundtrack?
I would want to stay in October. I’d love the soundtrack to be entirely instrumental, with a retro feel, like the works of Piero Piccioni.

Recommend one or more artists you follow who inspire you, and tell us what you like most about their work or their way of working.
Miki Kim: I love the detail, effects, and colors she uses in her work, especially her themes, which can feel somewhat aggressive yet are approached from a very feminine perspective.
Aysha Tengiz: I admire her ability to create characters and environments with a style that appears simple, yet is incredibly dynamic and rich in detail.
