Just Like Honey

What pieces or projects have you been working on lately?
Lately, I’ve been interested in portraying silence—spaces where a certain nostalgia coexists. Capturing the moment of what no longer exists.

What did you learn (or unlearn) while working on them?
I learned to pause and to compose with greater precision. To return to the same place and look again.

What words, ideas or emotions were going through your head?
Saudade.

Were there any conversations, movies, music, or books that made their way into that work?
The images of Sebastião Salgado and the verses of Patti Smith, are a constant inspiration.

What's been the most difficult thing you've faced recently in your creative process?
The hardest part of my creative process is avoiding the repetition of comfortable formulas. Looking at the same thing as if it were the first time.

What is your favorite restaurant and what do you recommend we order?
A pork sandwich with queijo da Serra at Casa Guedes , or a milanesa torta with green chilaquiles at La Esquina del Chilaquil.

If your life were a movie this month, what would it be called and who would write the soundtrack?
I always cry when I listen to Just Like Honey from The Jesus and Mary Chain. I think it would be the perfect soundtrack.

Which studios, laboratories, or workshops have you collaborated with recently or would you like to collaborate with in the future?
In the future, I would like to experiment with anthotype. I love the idea of working with plant-based pigments and other natural elements to create an image.

Recommend one or more artists you follow who inspire you, and tell us what you like most about their work or their way of working.
I’m amazed by the work of Andreas Gursky. I’m overwhelmed and excited by the immensity of the world: repetitive, chaotic, and beautiful.
