Expose for shadows

Tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in photography. What inspired you to start taking pictures?
The idea of taking pictures comes from my mother, that person who always had her point and shoot behind her, she has been my input of taking pictures for fun, taking pictures to remember things.

Another great input has been skateboarding, which goes hand in hand with photo/video and has brought me very close to the creative environment.

Then I started to study the technical part, and over the years I have gone deeper and deeper.

Can you tell us about the techniques and equipment that you consider essential to do your photographic work?
Without taking too much of my time, I try to be very careful when measuring light, if I can have a light meter in hand and measure incident light, then great. Sometimes you either take the photo now or it's gone, so I take it, and I trust that it's decently exposed, I don't like to intervene or tell anyone to wait (except if it's a shooting or something more posed of course, there are moments for everything).

What inspires you when creating new images? Do you have any rituals or creative processes that you follow to find inspiration?
Well, I don't think so, sometimes ideas jump out at you randomly, while you are going about your day to day life, suddenly you see something that makes you think of something else and so on and so forth. A lot of ideas come from silly things.

What is the most valuable piece of advice you have received in your career in photography?
Expose for shadows.

What question would you ask your favorite photographer?
Can I be your assistant?

The work of @rafagonzalezphoto I love it, every time I see one of his publications I get an “ufff”. I really like how he mixes skateboarding and architecture, and I also like that he works with print in darkroom, the methods are important, it's something I'm also starting to implement.
