How was this song born: with an image, a phrase, a melody… or something else?
It started with an acoustic guitar progression. Then I added some melodies on a bass guitar and played around with them on different instruments — Casiotone, and acoustic guitar. I usually begin with tempo and a drum pattern, but this time was an exception.
Who worked or collaborated on this song, and how did they contribute to its creation?
It was only me, as usual. Motorama is a solo project.
How long did it take to take its final shape?
It came together over several days. Writing the final lyrics took a bit longer. I use a phoneme-based method: mumbling melodies first, then shaping the words to match the song’s theme and imagery.
Is there a direct reference or influence (another song, book, film) present in this song?
No specific influence. For me, the song has a kind of inner motion — like a motorik engine. It feels suitable for running, or driving a car through an empty motorway or a city at night.
What other songs or projects are coming next?
I’m gathering new material for the next Motorama release. Time will tell what form it will take.
