What pieces or projects have you been working on lately?
Currently I’m in the process of working on four projects at the same time: my collaborative design shop, the new collection for my brand, a fashion show with two other brands, and also an analogue photography documentation project.

¿Qué aprendiste (o des aprendiste) mientras trabajabas en ello?
I’ve learned to be patient with creative processes. Many of them take longer than expected, and I believe good things take time—letting go little by little of the idea of immediacy. I’ve also learned how important it is to stay organized, to recognize priorities, and to keep commitments to myself, especially when living a freelance life. It’s about understanding that this is a commitment to oneself.

What words, ideas or emotions were going through your head?
The words that are always circling in my mind are: textures, versatility, function, harmony, and peace. The emotions that are usually present are restlessness, motivation, happiness, and calm.

Were there any conversations, movies, music, or books that made their way into that work?
Conversations—thousands. With my design friends or with my boyfriend, who is a photographer, and with whom I’m able to find those deeper answers about aesthetics and the visual world. Sometimes the answers also come from thinking about how people live their daily lives with design and inhabit it. I usually watch a lot of films of all kinds; they all teach you something and carry a message. The last thing I watched in full was The Sopranos and a couple of documentaries Jhon Galliano and Kanye West.

What's been the most difficult thing you've faced recently in your creative process?
Motivation, which is clearly connected to mental health. Last year I went through a very anxious and depressive period. I was in therapy with both a psychologist and a psychiatrist, taking medication, and doing a deep analysis of my existence and the reasons behind my life. This was connected to the long twelve-month pause I took from all my projects.

What is your favorite restaurant and what do you recommend we order?
Tengo varios favoritos, ya que disfruto un montón la comida. Siento que es una alquimia interesante lo de mezclar productos que crean sabores nuevos. Me quedaría con Verde Sazón, with its pisco sour and pizza.

If your life were a movie this month, what would it be called and who would write the soundtrack?
I’ve always felt like I’m the main character—or at least an important character—so I’ve thought about this before. It would be called What's Behind and the soundtrack would be by Childish Gambino.

Recommend one or more artists you follow who inspire you, and tell us what you like most about their work or their way of working.
Famous fashion designers who inspire me when I work are Sandy Liang and Cecilie Bahnsen. Creatively speaking, I think their visual and physical approaches are very similar to what I’d like to achieve. An artist who currently blows my mind is Szilveszter Mako.

A costume designer with a visual and conceptual approach, where fashion, photography, shapes, and textures are central to her practice. She has been developing her own clothing brand, NATGAL, for the past five years, exploring the relationship between body, materiality, and process, with constant references to nature and architecture.
