Fui a la licorer\u00eda y estaba cerrada. La ciudad es un gran fantasma: apenas sales de casa te das cuenta de que hoy no habr\u00e1 gente en las calles. Hasta el vagabundo medio loco que te pide una moneda al salir del metro celebr\u00f3 la noche de ayer, y ahora tiene resaca. Fui a la tienda y como la licorer\u00eda: cerrada. Parece haber ley seca sin haber ley seca. Tendr\u00e9 que tomar las llaves del auto prestadas y salir m\u00e1s lejos en busca de cerveza; eso o estrellarme al tener ya comprometida la felicidad y la estabilidad f\u00edsica y psicol\u00f3gica. Coger\u00e9 varias p\u00edldoras para reponerme y tal vez, ya en el auto, deambule un rato por las calles desiertas. Parece haber no circula para todas las calcoman\u00edas cuando en realidad s\u00f3lo hay para la calcoman\u00eda amarilla con terminaci\u00f3n 5 y 6. Una aspirina para espabilarme, dos para salir de la negaci\u00f3n, tres para sentir c\u00f3mo la sangre en las venas se me convierte en agua. Caf\u00e9, necesito caf\u00e9; caf\u00e9 y un panqu\u00e9, s\u00ed, y no olvidemos la cerveza y, si alcanza, una botella de vino barato. El ni\u00f1o que limpia los parabrisas no parece haber tenido un feliz fin de a\u00f1o, aunque tal vez me equivoque: all\u00ed, asomando de los harapos que lleva como ropa, va colgando una botella de activo y un trapito. La ciudad de hoy se parece a la ciudad del 2006 -el a\u00f1o de la influenza-, pero sin terror ni alarma. Hay un <em>Oxxo<\/em> abierto, pero el encargado s\u00f3lo atiende por una ventanita y la gente afuera parece digna de formar parte de una horda zombie en un remake de una pel\u00edcula de George A. Romero. Hoy, tan pronto haya terminado mi b\u00fasqueda, ir\u00e9 a casa y ver\u00e9 <em>The night of the living dead<\/em> sentado en el sof\u00e1, abrazando una almohada, bebiendo cerveza y comiendo panqu\u00e9. Me hab\u00eda olvidado por completo del paquete de cigarrillos en la guantera del carro, pero tan pronto lo recuerdo cojo uno y lo enciendo. Ahora ya no quiero nada, s\u00f3lo regresar a mi casa, estacionar el carro y ponerme a ver pel\u00edculas viejas; con suerte, aquello me animar\u00e1 un poco.<\/p>\n<p>Llego a casa y es pap\u00e1 el primero en preguntarme en d\u00f3nde estaba; tiene la pinta de que se acaba de levantar y, de hecho, se acaba de despertar. Le digo que fui al carro porque pens\u00e9 haber dejado algo en el asiento trasero. Sabe que es mentira lo que le digo porque puede ver a trav\u00e9s de mis ojos enrojecidos. \u00bfPasa algo?, me pregunta. No, nada, respondo. Feliz a\u00f1o nuevo, proclama justo antes de volver a cerrar tras de s\u00ed la puerta de su rec\u00e1mara. Otra vez, estoy solo. Enciendo la tele y lo primero que veo es a una hiena arrancando pedazos de carne del cad\u00e1ver de un le\u00f3n. Ahora ya no quiero ver <em>The night of the living dead<\/em> sino <em>The lion king<\/em>, a fin de quitarme esa imagen tan siniestra de la cabeza. Tal vez, como cada a\u00f1o, pasen <em>Jingle All the Day<\/em> y se me olvide la necesidad de beber y olvidar. Se vuelve a abrir la puerta del cuarto que cerr\u00f3 mi pap\u00e1, pero ahora es mi mam\u00e1 quien sale de ella. Feliz a\u00f1o, mam\u00e1, le digo, aunque s\u00e9 que le gusta tanto como a m\u00ed iniciar un nuevo a\u00f1o.
